Schooner Ruth: Raising the Bar

Posted on March 28, 2018 · Posted in Press Release
Eastern Caribbean as a way to raise her profile as a sail training and sail cargo vessel promoting young adults raising their knowledge in a maritime career and sail cargo raising climate mitigation awareness.
Captain Scheper says:

“Fundamentally, RUTH will be sailing/racing every season, and every regatta.  Our reception and support from Christophe Harbour and the St. Kitts Govt Maritime Admin, Jolly Harbour Marina owner in Antigua and others who have experienced what we supply as a 100% Barbados Seamans/Master of Yachts training vessel has been excellent.

I am happy to provide direct references to everyone who we have touched in our Caribbean sailing including our hurricane relief efforts to Anguilla and which are continuing with plans to support small farmers in North East Dominica.
The owner of Pink Gin VI (largest Carbon fibre vessel on the planet – I played their carbon fibre grand piano ) invested in Sail Cargo Schooner Avontuur and with RUTH we did a personal pursuit race between Marie Galant and Guadeloupe recently.
Pink Gin’s owner invited all the classic schooner vessels in the bay (RUTH, AVONTUUR, EYE OF THE WIND) onboard PINK GIN VI to experience the latest high tech level of sailing (launched June 2017).
I have a Captains blog on our schoonerruth.com website which talks about what our students experience, Bajans, St.Lucians and Grenadians (Carriacou).  The concept of our programme has worked, i.e.  having met the Captain of ENTERPRISE Perini Navi in Antigua and others, they have open invitations for future jobs for our trainees upon course completion.
The point is that RUTH will continue to build a cadre of highly skilled Caribbean resources that meet and exceed the skill expectations by the finest yachts on the planet for future sailors.
Our most recent participation at the St.Barts Regatta with the historic plendour of J boats on show demonstrates our commitment to solidifying Caribbean representation at every level.

To be clear, RUTH is a Cargo (working) vessel design, not a racer.
At the moment, trainees have completed all their MCA level STCW, VHF, ENG, NAV THEORY with commercial SEAMANS books and their final exam by a UK examiner is pending after Antigua Classic Regatta. RUTH will go on the hard in Grenada for new antifouling etc. in another week, and depart for the premier event of the season Antigua Classic Regatta.  This regatta features every POS in each of the 4 races.
We have tactician commitments from resources in the past Commodore of Grenada Yacht Club and other professional experienced sailors.  We are raising our levels in every respect.
